Salina, KS - OCCK Transportation, along with partners Coffeyville Area Community Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, are pleased to announce that two locations for KANcycle, the bike sharing program for rural Kansas, will be relaunched in Coffeyville on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

The locations in Coffeyville are at the Coffeyville Community College near the administration building and in downtown Coffeyville at 8th & Walnut.  Coffeyville previously operated their own bike sharing program.  The existing stations and bikes will be relaunched as part of the KANcycle brand.

KANcycle, a program of OCCK Transportation, started in June of 2019, with 80 bikes and 16 stations located in Belleville, Beloit, Concordia, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Mankato, Minneapolis and Salina, with three stations and 15 bikes added in Lindsborg in June of 2023.  Adding Coffeyville brings the total stations to 21 and the total bikes to 105.  KANcycle provides convenient, affordable access to bicycles as an easy, fun, healthy and eco-friendly means of transportation and recreation.

“We are so excited to expand the footprint of KANcycle by partnering with Coffeyville,” said Michelle Griffin, Director of Mobility Management for North Central Kansas.  “We have had great success with the bikes in our other communities.  KANcycle has been a great asset for North Central Kansas and provides additional transportation options to our rural communities and will now be available in Coffeyville.”

“Coffeyville Area Community Foundation is excited to partner with OCCK, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, Movatic, and our community partners, Coffeyville Community College, The City of Coffeyville, Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Visit Coffeyville to continue this exceptional program for Coffeyville. KANcycle Bike Sharing for Coffeyville will help provide transportation and assist in promoting public health and wellbeing in the community.” said Samantha Kudrick, Director of Community Services for Coffeyville Area Community Foundation.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, the state’s largest health insurer, and the primary sponsor of KANcycle, is making another contribution to provide the bikes and stations for Coffeyville.

“For more than 80 years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to helping Kansans lead healthier lives,” said Virginia Barnes, Director, Blue Health Initiatives. “Bike share encourages both active living and provides a means for community members to access resources they need to stay healthy. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is honored to contribute to the growth of this initiative, extending its benefits to even more rural communities across the state."

Movatic manages all aspects of its bike-share programs - from bikes and technology to maintenance and fleet rebalancing. Riding KANcycle bike share is easy. Bikes can be found via the free Movatic Mobile App - available for iPhone and Android.  Each bike has a unique number which riders enter into the app to unlock the bike.  After the rider returns the bike to a designated Movatic bike station, the rental ends and the bike is available for the next person to enjoy.  Riders join the program by signing up for annual memberships or pay-as-you-go.  Annual memberships are $30 with trips under 1 hour being free, student annual memberships are $20 with trips under 1 hour being free, and pay-as-you-go is $1.50 every 30 minutes.
