J & D Meat Market of Coffeyville recently signed a Healthier Food Retail Pledge to work with the Grow Labette and Montgomery County Coalition  to improve access and offerings of healthy foods in their store.

Store owner, Alejandro Rocha, has agreed to work with our Coalition partners at K-State Research and Extension, Holly Miner and Katherine Pinto in assessing the store environment and committing to increase stocking of healthier foods (fruits, veggies, lean proteins minimally processed whole grains) with a commitment to stock those healthier items for at least two years.

After assessments are made, Mr. Rocha will be able to apply for a grant through BCBSKS Pathways to implement the changes. These changes may include signage, shelving, and/or energy efficient upgrades that specifically support storage of healthy food items.

"This is a great opportunity for a locally owned Hispanic business and we couldn't be happier that he has agreed to make these healthy changes!" says Marci Roberts, Pathways Coordinator for MG County.
